Matchbox cover belonging to James W. Anding

Private James W. Anding (1896-1976), of Martinsville, Mississippi, served with the newly formed Tank Corps during World War I. His assignments included the 331st Tank Battalion and 306th Tank Brigade, which saw service in France during the final months of the war.
He acquired this souvenir matchbox cover while stationed in France. The front is engraved with his initials, “J.W.A.,” and “Tank Corps.” “Argonne 1918” is engraved on the reverse. Presumably, Private Anding participated in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which was one of the last major Allied operations of World War I.
