Demitasse cup & saucer and ashtray belonging to Robert P. Briscoe
This porcelain ashtray hand-painted with “Commander Seventh Fleet” belonged to Admiral Robert P. Briscoe (1897-1968), a native of Centerville, Mississippi. In 1952, then Vice Admiral Briscoe served as the tenth commander of the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet in Korean waters. In 1956, Briscoe was promoted to the rank of four-star admiral in the United States Navy. The four gold stars on his porcelain demitasse cup denote this rank.
