Cape made by Miriam H. Collier

Miriam Hagan Collier (1916-1997), of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was a civilian employee at Camp Shelby during World War II. She worked at Quartermaster Laundries on post as a seamstress and clerk from 1941 to 1946. Collier made this cape and decorated the garment with various military insignia patches that she collected while working at Camp Shelby.

Insignia on Front Right Side (Left to Right):  First Row – Anti Aircraft Command; Second Row – 65th Infantry Division; Third Row – 1st Coast Artillery, Parachute Infantry, 69th Infantry Division, Army Air Corps Engineering Specialist; Fourth Row – Army Service Forces, Armored Division

Insignia on Front Left Side (Left to Right): First Row – US (on the lapel), Tank Destroyer Forces, 8 Wheel Variation; Second Row –  Replacement and School Command; Third Row – 4th Service Command, Ninth Army, Officer Candidate School (OCS), 2nd Coast Artillery; Fourth Row – Third Army, 99th Infantry Division

Insignia on Back (Left to Right):  First Row – Army Air Forces; Second Row – 1st Cavalry Division, 3rd Air Force, Second Army; Third Row – Army Ports of Embarkation, Anti Aircraft Command, Western Defense Command, 28th Infantry Division; Fourth Row – 4th Army, XXII Corps; Fifth Row: Alaska Defense Command, U.S. Army Specialized Training Program, 15th Air Force, 5th Army, 8th Air Force
