3rd Army War Maneuvers medal
From August 1-14, 1938, soldiers from Mississippi and the Southeast participated in the 3rd Army War Maneuvers. Commonly referred to as the Mississippi Maneuvers, these war training exercises took place in the De Soto National Forest, between Hattiesburg and Gulfport, Mississippi. The maneuvers simulated warfare and were designed to measure the US Army’s defense against a coastal invasion, in this case, from the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
These commemorative medals were available to soldiers that participated in the 3rd Army Maneuvers conducted in the De Soto National Forest in 1938. The medal features the Lord’s Prayer on the reverse.
