Go For Broke! jumbo lobby card

This lobby card was used to promote and advertise the feature file Go For Broke!, released in theaters in 1951. The movie tells the story of the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. The unit, comprised of Nisei, or second-generation Japanese Americans, many hailing from Hawaii, got its start at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, in 1943. After training at Camp Shelby, the 442nd departed for the European Theater of Operations in April 1944. The regiment saw combat in Italy and France, and became the most decorated unit in US military history for its size and length of service.

Go For Broke! co-starred actual veterans of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, as well as actor Van Johnson. The film took its title from the 442nd’s motto “Go For Broke.” In 1952, the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay.
